From Red Carpet to Green Carpet – Sustainability at Berlinale 2025

Berlinale_Eingang

Red has long been a color of prestige – in ancient Greece, it was reserved for heroes and dignitaries. Today, actors like Tilda Swinton and Timothée Chalamet are admired as they walk this carpet.

But what many don’t know: The Berlinale carpet of 2025 is a masterpiece of the circular economy. Made from just two materials, it is 100% recyclable and saves enormous amounts of energy and resources through innovative production.

How Can a Red Carpet Be Sustainable?

Good question! The Berlinale carpet is made from polyester and polyamide – no blend of countless materials that would make recycling difficult. This makes it fully reusable, without any loss of quality.

And there’s more:

  • 95% less energy consumption compared to conventional carpet production
  • No water consumption during manufacturing
  • 50% lighter than conventional carpets – reducing CO₂ emissions during transport
  • Use of ECONYL® yarn, made from recycled fishing nets and industrial waste

Sounds revolutionary? It is!

Daniel Butz, CEO of OBJECT CARPET, puts it clearly: “We want to show that sustainability and design are not mutually exclusive. Our DUO carpet combines elegance with responsibility and sets new standards in the industry.”

A Carpet That Makes History

Sustainability is already proving to be a success. In recent years, part of the Berlinale carpets has been recycled and turned into high-quality doormats in a limited edition – a true hit! “Last year, they sold out within a day,” recalls a team member from OBJECT CARPET. So if you want to bring a piece of Berlinale flair home, you better act fast!

A Look into the Future
OBJECT CARPET has set an ambitious goal: By the end of 2026, the entire product range should be largely circular. “We believe that sustainability must become the new standard. Not just at Berlinale but everywhere design and responsibility meet,” says Daniel Butz.

Perhaps we’ll soon see recycled Berlinale carpets in Hollywood, too? The red carpet of tomorrow is green – and we’re proud to be part of this movement!
