With MEDITERRANEO, we are venturing outdoors: a small, fine carpet collection that can be used flexibly both indoors and outdoors. Jointly developed and designed with Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, who both value the essentials of a product in their design: durability, high functionality and clarity combined with the aesthetic demands of natural authenticity, craftsmanship, elegance and beauty. The result is very durable, weather-resistant carpets that create a Mediterranean heritage look. A special production process gives the carpet collection an unexpected touch: despite its robust and natural appearance, reminiscent of rattan, the carpet is surprisingly supple. It is extremely soft and sensual and exudes Mediterranean nonchalence.

Qualities of the Mediterraneo collection

The basic material for the new carpets is recycled plastics from industrial and consumer waste. The traditional fine spinning of different yarns transforms the materials used for MEDITERRANEO into a modern texture with a natural look and authentic feel, which is also fully recyclable. The results and sustainable properties are impressive. What emerges is a beautifully textured, sensual and responsible material that trumps natural materials in terms of sustainability, because these carpets are infinitely recyclable after each life cycle.

About the manufacturing and recycling process

The processing of waste into the recyclable MEDITERRANEO collection uses a multi step appro ach in which collected, sorted and cleaned waste is turned into polyester chips. Then converted into filament fibers from which the carpet is made. Compared to the production of carpet from new polyester, this sustainable manufacturing process significantl y avoids CO2 emissions. And after its use, MEDITERRANEO can be recycled again and again countless times.

The MEDITERRANEO collection includes four different weave patterns (MILO, RODI, MENORCA and CAPRI) in three different shades (TALCO, SABBIA and VULCANO) that reflect an authentic, natural color palette. As a standalone carpet (RUGX) it offers many options for in- and outdoor locations. Despite its robust and natural appearance that is reminiscent of rattan, the carpet is surprisingly smooth.

MEDITERRANEO border options, sizes and forms

The natural character of the collection is emphasized by the unique NATURAL BORDER. It gets its very special touch through a new type of edging. The sewn edges with open yarn ends reflect the Mediterranean lifestyle and is a special feature that meets even robust outdoor requirements. This special edging option decorates our CAPRI, MENORCA, and RODI qualities as standard.

The edging style TEXTILE BORDER frames the RUGX with an exclusive textile band, which is specially made from the same yarn in the same yarn color, emphasizing the exclusive character of the fine texture of the flat and tightly woven quality MILO.

MEDITERRANEO carpets are very resilient and the perfect solution for both private and public areas: They are easy to clean, dry quickly and are water- and UV-resistant, so they can easily withstand outdoor conditions. Matteo Thun emphasizes:

''As architects, we were waiting to develop a waste-free and entirely recyclable carpet collection that can also be used outside – The result is a beautifully textured and conscious material that belies its humble origins - we are very happy with it!''

The quality MILO which represents the smallest and most flat pattern is produced on a loom up to 4m width with textile backing. The other qualities - RODI, MENORCA and CAPRI - instead are limited to 3 m width with a water-permeable finish.

RUGX in the following standard sizes are usually available within 2 weeks:

round: diameter 1,5 m, 2 m, 3 m
rectangular: 1,5x2 m, 2x2 m, 2x3 m, 3x3 m, 3x4 m
